The next chapter of the Bourne films is set to hit theaters on July 29, 2016, Universal announced today.
The untitled sequel will see the return of Matt Damon as Jason Bourne and director Paul Greengrass. The two originally collaborated in the Bourne Trilogy films: The Bourne Identity (2002), The Bourne Supremacy (2004) and The Bourne Ultimatum (2007).
Damon chose not to return for the fourth film and in 2012, Jeremy Renner starred as Aaron Cross in The Bourne Legacy. Renner is set to return as Cross in a future separate spinoff film, at a later date following the fifth Bourne film.
Universal sees having both Damon and Renner as the best of two worlds for continuing to build the Bourne franchise.
