Telltale Games might only be two chapters into their planned five-part adventure game set in the world of Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, but that hasn’t stopped them from already beginning development on a planned “season two” that would expand the best-selling series out beyond the five episodes already announced, according to comments made by the game company yesterday in an interview with Polygon (with comments reprinted by The Verge).
That’s right—Telltale is planning a “Walking Dead: Season Two,” a second adventure that will allow players who picked up the game on Steam or other popular gaming sites to keep on keepin’ on in the zombie-overrun world of Kirkman’s epic survival fantasy.
"We believe there is no better company than Telltale to bring complex narrative IP to interactive entertainment," senior vice president of marketing Steve Allison said in a statement to Polygon. "Our first episodic game series based on The Walking Dead has sold nearly 1.7 million episodes to consumers in just our first 8 weeks with no signs of slowing down. We have three more episodes to go with Episode 3 targeted for August as we confirmed yesterday. Following the digital release of our fifth episode, we will also be coming to North American retail shortly thereafter and this will not be the last The Walking Dead game series that we do."
Whether the story will continue where the first five episodes left off with the original characters introduced for the game, pick up with a whole new group of survivors or use character who actually exist in the comic books and movies is unclear at this point; a newly-announced first person shooter from ActiVision takes place in the world of the TV series, though, so that option seems far less likely for another company to do as well.
The second episode of The Walking Dead from Telltale just hit for consoles and PCs, with a third episode expected along in August. Yet another Walking Dead video game, a social game supported by AMC Television, has been planned for some time and will have a presence at this week’s San Diego Comic-Con International.
