If you haven’t watched it yet, feel free to check it out here, as well as our breakdown and reaction to it.
Though if you have watched the trailer which shows Apocalypse’s devastating powers, and the beginning of the Xavier School as we know it from the comics, follow along as we take a look at the five best lines.
X-Men: Apocalypse hits theaters May 27th, 2016.
Or The Bible Got It From Him
ย
The returning Rose Byrneย as Moira MacTaggertย meets with Charles and begins to discuss who this mysterious new mutant (Apocalypse) really is.ย
MacTaggertย mentions that wherever this being went, he would have four followers that he gave great power to. “Like the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. He got that one from the Bible,” Havok says. “Or the Bible got it from him,” retorts MacTaggert.ย
That implies a lot. She’s basically saying that Apocalypse is so ancient that he could predate the Bible, which is very feasible given our next entry.ย
I’ve Been Called Many Things…
ย
We get the sense that Apocalypse is incredible old from various cues here. Of course, comic fans know that he was given the title En Sabahย Nur, “The First One”, so there’s no denying he’s been around for a while.ย
Oscar Isaacs delivers the line in a seducing tone, as Apocalypse explains who he truly is. “I’ve been called many things over many lifetimes: Ra. Krishna. Yahweh.” In the scene above, he’s tempting Storm, who was worshipped as a goddess herself in Kenya. It seems that Apocalypse was worshipped not only as a god, but possibly God Himself at one point.ย
Not All of Us Can Control Our Powers
ย
Cyclops has always been one of the more tragic members of the X-Men, cursed with an unstoppable force that cannot be tamed. In a brief scene, we see Jennifer Lawrence’s Mystique instructs Cyclops to let loose.ย
“Not all of us can control our powers,” he says.ย
“Then don’t. This is war.”ย
Next thing you know, Scott is unleashing a full optic blast. Now, it’s apparent they are two unattached scenes, but it could mean that Scott’s been apprehensive about his powers. Getting guidance from Mystique is interesting, too, as she looks the part of field commander. Could Scott later assume her role?ย
I’ve Never Felt Power Like This Before
ย
Professor Xavier has used Cerebro to find mutants in the past, as well as get an idea on their power range.ย
At the end of the trailer, it appears that Xavier is using it to find Apocalypse. In the previous movies, we’ve battled mutants that are on somewhat of the same power level. This is the first time they’ve dealt with a mutant that is truly a threat to the entirety of humanity.ย
“I’ve never felt power like this before,” Charles utters as his eyes dim black.ย
Now, there is a theory that this is him actually looking for Jean as it resembles the same effect the Phoenix Force had on Jean. We’ll have to find out in May.ย
Everything They’ve Built Will Fall
ย
Apocalypse’s creed has always been “survival of the fittest”.ย
He declares that he will create a better world after he’s destroyed everything.ย
“Everything they’ve built will fall, and from the ashes of their world, we’ll build a better one!”
Apocalypse is also all about evolution. Once him and his cronies get done obliterating all of civilization, he’ll mold the world to his making. This is an entirely different kind of threat that the X-Men and mutantkindย have faced thus far. We also get Apocalypse’s goal from the get-go and he is not wasting any time.ย
