Beast X-Men Days of Future Past

Well, this is a welcome change. Comic book movies like I, Frankenstein, Sin City: A Dame to Kill For and even Man of Steel have had their theatrical release dates delayed in recent months and years.  This time, though, it looks as though somebody is ahead of schedule (even in spite of the fact that director Bryan Singer spends all of his time on Twitter). Yes, that's right: X-Men: Days of Future Past will actually move its release date UP, coming on May 23, 2014 instead of its originally-announced date in July of that year. The movie will trade places with another 20th Century Fox franchise film, Dawn of the Planet of the Apes, which will open later than expected. That's perhaps not surprising; the Apes sequel has had shuffling going on behind the scenes creatively almost since it was greenlit, none of which seemed to impede its forward momentum until now. Both the X-Men change and the Sin City delay earlier this week came during fairly routine deck-shuffling, as studios prepare for the next calendar year or so worth of blockbusters and try to set a timetable and a budget for their investors; changes at such a time are generally not seen to be much of a sign of anything to do with the specific film, necessarily, although it's probably a safe bet that Apes will be assumed to be a bit behind schedule considering they didn't just delay it, but moved another big-budget, big-effects tentpole up into the May slot.
