Disney XD announced today that they had ordered Mighty Med, a live-action, superhero comedy starring Bradley Steven Perry, Paris Berelc, Devan Leos and Jake Short to series. The pilot apparently impressed the network to move forward with the series, which was co-created by Phineas and Ferb‘s Jim Bernstein and Scrubs‘s Andy Schwartz. It’s set for a fall 2013 premiere. The pilot was directed by Eric Dean Seaton and produced by A.N.T. Fram‘s Stephen Engel.According to Deadline, “Mighty Med follows best friends Kaz (Perry) and Oliver (Short) who, while hanging out at their favorite comic book store, inadvertently discover a secret wing of a hospital that caters to super heroes and comic book characters.””Our Disney XD audience will go on a journey with these characters, two comic book fanboys whose love and knowledge of sci-fi, fantasy and super heroes land them the coolest after school job ever – working at Mighty Med, a hospital for super heroes,” said Adam Bonnett, SVP, Original Programming, Disney Channel. While the network does carry Ultimate Spider-Man and a number of other animated Marvel Comics projects, the live-action offerings from Marvel have been limited so far to the theaters. ABC will launch S.H.I.E.L.D. in the fall, though, marking the first live-action adaptation of a Marvel Comics hero in some time. Attempts to adapt The Punisher, The Incredible Hulk and Brian Michael Bendis’s Alias have recently failed.
