The first season of Stranger Things seemed like it could have been a self-contained limited series, but fans didn’t have to wait too long before Netflix announced that Stranger Things would be back for a second season.

But how long can Stranger Things keep going? After all, if strange things happen for a long enough period of time they end up becoming normal things. According to the show’s creators, Matt and Ross Duffer, they’re planning for Stranger Things to run a total of four of five seasons, but nothing is set in stone.

“Everything changes as we move forward so we’ll see,” Ross Duffer tells Entertainment Weekly.

“I want it to have a really finite ending,” Matt Duffer adds. “I don’t want it to be one of those shows that runs out of gas and they lose it because they’re losing interest. You wanna end when you’re on top.”

As for the actual structure of the seasons going forward, Stranger Things aims to maintain to go the same route as season one, which felt to many viewers like an eight-hour movie.

“Hopefully you’ll come to the end of season 2 and feel fully satisfied and want more but you’ll feel like it has come to a conclusion,” Ross Duffer said. “But also we’ve laid the ground work for further seasons.”
