George Lucas Loves Rogue One: A Star Wars Story

The original father of the Star Wars epic galactic saga has spoken!

ComicBook.com’s Star Wars expert Lucas Siegel is on site covering the Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Press Conference at Lucasfilm in San Francisco, California, where director Gareth Edwards is speaking along with Kathleen Kennedy and the stars of the film. Edwards related that during press on Friday, he was pulled away for an “important phone call” and it was from George Lucas himself.

He called and spoke with Edwards for about half an hour, a conversation Edwards said he will “cherish and take to my grave.”

Now that Rogue One: A Star Wars Story has the official seal of approval from the man who started it all, fans can be sure to expect another amazing entry into the revived franchise.

Gareth Edwards went on to discuss George Lucas’ filmaking methods.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story hits US theaters December 16, 2016. Directed by Gareth Edwards, it’s the first of the new standalone features from Lucasfilm and Disney, which take place outside the core “Skywalker Saga” of films noted by an Episode number. Rogue One tells the story of the small band of rebels that were tasked with stealing the plans to the first Death Star. The story spins directly off the opening crawl from the original Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope. In that crawl, it read: “Rebel spaceships, striking from a hidden base, have won their first victory against the evil Galactic Empire. During the battle, Rebel spies managed to steal secret plans to the Empire’s ultimate weapon, the DEATH STAR, an armored space station with enough power to destroy an entire planet.”
