While there are still plenty of mysteries hiding throughout the Star Wars universe, there is one thing every fan knows for certain – Darth Vader hates sand.

In the prequel trilogy, Hayden Christensen portrayed Anakin Skywalker, the younger version of the iconic villain. The prequels have been bashed a bit over the years, with a lot of the criticism pointing to quite a few rough patches of dialogue strewn throughout. One of those difficult-to-watch scenes saw Christensen’s Anakin telling Padme – his love interest played by Natalie Portman – exactly how much he hated the sand.

“I don’t like sand. It’s coarse, and rough, and irritating – and it gets everywhere.”

Everyone is very aware of the unfortunately iconic line, especially Hayden Christensen. While at Star Wars Celebration Orlando, the actor was asked about his personal feelings regarding sand. His response was priceless.

“It’s not very smooth, it doesn’t really stay in one place, so I’m not such a big fan of it myself. Although, if it leads to the water, I can tolerate. But Anakin came from a desert planet so I understood his contempt for it.”

Christensen basically re-worked all of the words to the original line, and that had fans cheering. It’s also great to know that he connected with Anakin on a bit of a personal level, and that he paid close enough attention to the details to remember exactly why his character had the thoughts that he did.
