Last weekend’s behind-the-scenes footage of The Last Jedi gave us a better look at an all-new planet in the saga, Canto Bight. Having previously only seen still images of the planet, we have a much better understanding of the environment director Rian Johnson called a place for “rich a**holes.” You can see Canto Bight in the video above.

When speaking with Vanity Fair earlier this year, Johnson revealed his inspiration for the planet, calling it “a Star Wars Monte Carloโtype environment, a little James Bondโish, a little To Catch a Thief.” He added, “It was an interesting challenge, portraying luxury and wealth in this universe.”
As some of the locations featured in the teaser for The Last Jedi appeared to be bleak and desolate, the filmmaker wanted to offer a different interpretation of the galaxy, explaining, “I was thinking, O.K., let’s go ultra-glamour. Let’s create a playground, basically, for rich a**holes.”
Between the behind-the-scenes footage from this past weekend and the teaser trailer from earlier this year, The Last Jedi promises to be an incredibly emotional journey, but Johnson didn’t want the whole film to be mired with intense emotions.
“I didn’t want this to be a dirge, a heavy-osity movie,” John confessed. “So one thing I’ve tried really hard to do is keep the humor in there, to maintain the feeling, amid all the heavy operatic moments, that you’re on a fun ride.”
We’ll get an even better look at the exciting planet when The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15.
