'Star Wars: The Last Jedi' Opening Night Early Estimates Are Out

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is traveling at light speed at the box office.

Early estimates for Thursday's box office numbers have Star Wars: The Last Jedi landing at more then $45 million for opening night preview shows. Should the number ring true, Episode XIII will nab the second-largest box office opening of all time, behind only Star Wars: The Force Awakens which hauled in $57 million on its preview night. In third place will be Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, sitting at $43.5 million.

Earlier estimates for The Last Jedi had the film hauling in over $425 million worldwide, with $200 million of the haul coming domestically. For comparison, Star Wars: The Force Awakens grabbed $281 million internationally, with $247.9 million domestically adding to its worldwide opening of $529 million. Star Wars: The Last Jedi runs for 14 more minutes than Star Wars: The Force Awakens, with 150 minutes as opposed to Episode XII's 136 minutes.

The only film opening against The Last Jedi is Ferdinand, which targets a much younger demographic with the animated film borrowing voices from John Cena, Kate McKinnon, and Bobby Canavale. The 20th Century Fox and Blue Sky Studios film is projected for up to $20 million.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi hits theaters on December 15, 2017.
