There’s not a ton of dialogue in the first teaser trailer for Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, but what is there carries a lot of weight. While the full transcription would barely full a paragraph, we did pick out four bits that were especially major for Star Wars fans anxious for anything they can get out of Lucasfilm.

โ€œJyn Ersoโ€

We have a name. Felicity Jones’ character is Jynย Erso, and looks to be a completely new character in theย Star Wars universe. She’s been “on her own since 15” so she certainly knows how to survive. That little detail also makes the character ripe for inclusion in other media, whether that means she shows up onย Star Wars Rebels or gets a book or comic book tie-in, that history may get told elsewhere thanย Rogue One.

โ€œThis is a Rebellion, isnโ€™t it? I rebel.โ€

Star Wars trailer editors are unusually exceptional at summing up a character in one line, and this one seems to do that for Jyn Erso. It’s defiant, but also accepting. It’s inclusive and also exclusively hers. It’s basically a perfect line of dialogue.

โ€œA major weapons test is imminent”

Mon Mothma’sย lines are mostly expository in this trailer, but this one is just exciting. If you don’t get a little chill as she says this line, and the Death Star is slowly revealed, then you’re probablyย some kind of Sithย Lord and we’re scared of you.

โ€œWhat will you become?โ€

ย

Forest Whitaker’s character’s speech is pretty good altogether, but the final line has the real weight. Coupled with the shot of Jyn in an Imperial uniform (hopefully just for some infiltration and not an ill portent), it also ends the trailer. Ending a trailer with a question like that makes fans desperate to know more, and anxious for the film’s release.
