Fans wondering why James Cameron has not directed a superhero movie, and those wanting him to get in on DC or Marvel‘s gravy trains, well, too bad.

The prolific director and creator of Avatar simply isn’t interested in making a film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He’s not even into the idea of making a movie in the Star Wars universe.
In an interview with the Daily Beast in promotion of the National Geographic docu-series Atlantis Rising, Cameron was asked point blank if he’d consider making a Star Wars or Marvel film. His reply was surprisingly blunt.
“I’m not the slightest bit interested in laboring in someone else’s house,” Cameron replied.
Cameron has a lot of work ahead of him, as he’s working on four different films at onceโthose being the seemingly eternally-in-pre-production Avatar films.
“My focus isn’t on Avatar 2. My focus is on Avatar 2, 3, 4, and 5 equally,” Cameron elaborated. “That’s exactly how I’m approaching it. They’ve all been developed equally. I’ve just finished the script to Avatar 5. I’m now starting the process of active prep. I’ll be working with the actors in the capture volume in August, so I’m booked in production every day between now and then.”
So even if Cameron had the time on his schedule, fan-favorite franchises like Star Wars or the Avengers don’t even register on his radar.
