When Star Wars: The Force Awakens first premiered, fans lamented the lack of aliens from the Original Trilogy appearing in the newest film. While JJ Abrams needed to establish the new characters and settings without banking on nostalgia, the inclusion of the most recognizable Wookie in the galaxy did not make up for the absence of Rodians and Jawas.

But Rogue One: A Star Wars Story included one of the most beloved and obscure alien races in the universe, though you might have missed it in your first few watches.
Eagle-eyed Reddit user Arsanel posted this screengrab from the beginning of the film, when Cassian Andor is seeking information from Tivik on the Ring of Kafrene.
In the group shot, a Twi’lek woman is shown conversing with two Imperial officers.
This is in addition to Saw Gerrera’s Twi’lek companion Beezer Fortunaโapparently related to Jabba the Hutt’s servant Bib Fortuna in Return of the Jediโand a hologram of a Twi’lek dancer being watched by another member of Saw’s gang.
It’s cool to see Gareth Edwards contributing to the Star Wars mythos while embracing some of the core aspects of George Lucas’ legacy. Though Twi’leks aren’t the most prominent alien race in the series, they still remain some of the most beloved.
These easter eggs, and the prominence of Hera Syndulla in Star Wars Rebels, seem to indicate that the core alien races from the Original Trilogy won’t be forgotten in future films.
