While the latest film in the Star Wars saga will detail some of the earliest adventures of Han Solo, Chewbacca, and Lando Calrissian, it will also feature a ton of new faces who have yet to make their mark in the galaxy.
After the debut of the first teaser trailer during Good Morning America, Lucasfilm has started to reveal the names of new characters who will be in Solo: A Star Wars Story.

Fans have been speculating about who Thandie Newton and Phoebe Waller-Bridge would be playing in the latest Star Wars spinoff, with rumors that Waller-Bridge’s character would utilize motion capture technology. That’s been confirmed, as Lucasfilm revealed she is playing the droid seen in the cockpit of the Millennium Falcon.
Lando Calrissian’s new (old) co-pilot goes by the designation L3-37. Yes, L337, or leet, or outdated gamer speak for ‘Elite.’ Let’s just hope the character doesn’t talk about “pwning n00bs” in the new film. Given that they have Fleabag’s Waller-Bridge portraying the character, it seems like the droid might provide some comic relief in Solo, much like K-2SO in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story.
But Newton’s character appears to be all business in the new trailer, with a serious demeanor as she preps what appears to be a blaster. It’s only a brief look at the Westworld actor’s appearance in the new Star Wars movie, but Lucasfilm revealed her character would be named Val.
A rumor floated around while Solo: A Star Wars Story was filming at Pinewood Studios in April 2017, with reports stating that a character was referenced as Val on set. It appears that’s been confirmed.
Merchandising leaks also corroborated some information we previously new. Woody Harrelson revealed his character’s name was Beckett, and a recent toy listed his full name as Tobias Beckett.
While there were rumors that screenwriter Lawrence Kasdan would use Rey’s abandoned name from the early planning of phases of Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the spelling is changed for Emilia Clarke’s character. She is known as Qi’Ra, which was derived from Kira in Kasdan’s old script.
Little else is known about Solo: A Star Wars Story, but given how much we learned just from the short teasers, expect a lot more information as we get closer to the film’s release date.
Solo: A Star Wars Story premieres in theaters on May 25th.
