Today we got the trailer for Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and needless to say that the buzz surrounding the film is pretty big right now. The trailer was dark and ominous and littered with all kinds of subtle clues and Easter eggs for fans to unpack.

One of the biggest mysteries of The Last Jedi has obviously been the implications of its title, and how those implications affect major force wielders like Rey (Daisy Ridley), Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) and of course, Luke Skywalker (Mark Hamill). Well, while fans stand on the side speculating, Luke Skywalker actor Mark Hamill addressed those two big questions regarding his character, in interviews held as part of Star Wars Celebration Orlando. Will Luke Turn to the Dark Side?

Comicbook.com’s Joseph Schmidt has already done an extensive breakdown about how/why Luke could turn to the dark side in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, and it is definitely a development that The Last Jedi teaser trailer arguably hints at.

So what does Mark Hamill have to say about Luke Skywalker possibly turning to the dark side? See for yourself in the actor’s interview with Good Morning America, below:

Always the pro, Hamill doesn’t drop any kind of reveal about Luke’s dark or light side prospects in The Last Jedi – but he also doesn’t say “no” to the idea, either. Good media training should leave in exactly this kind of place: still uncertain, but still hopeful that their theories and speculation could possibly turn out to be true.

However, when it comes to the question of Luke actually surviving the events of The Last Jedi, Hamill’s words were slightly more definitive….

We already reported that there are hints already circling that Star Wars: The Last Jedi may be the final Star Wars movie Mark Hamill stars in. The actor joked that he likes watching films like Rouge One and the Prequel Trilogy because he’s not actually starring in them, and when asked if he’ll get to experience Episode IX the same way, his response was “to be determined.”

It’s also no secret that Hamill was hesitant to jump back into the franchise, and the actor himself recently confessed that he wasn’t the biggest fan of where Luke’s story arc has gone (even though he’s loyal to the creators behind that arc).

All of this innuendo suggests that The Last Jedi could be a drastic (if not well-earned) ending for Mark Hamill’s Luke Skywalker. And that ending could be an epic death. After all: Han is already gone, and Carrie Fisher’s Leia will make her final appearance in The Last Jedi – there’s not a lot of life or love left for Luke Skywalker. It would, in some ways, be appropriate for the Force to call him home, soon.
