There’s no denying the fact that Donald Glover is one of Hollywood’s most promising talents. The star is more than a triple threat thanks to his comedy, music, and acting gigs. Still, even burgeoning talent like Glover’s can be cornered when it is pitted against a revered franchise like Star Wars. The iconic sci-fi series is more popular now than ever thanks to Lucasfilm’s new trilogy, and a slew of standalone films are in the works.

So, really, it’s not surprising to hear that Glover has joined that cinematic universe – and he really wants to live up to expectations.

In a recent chat with Deadline, Glover spoke to the site about his work on the upcoming Han Solo standalone movie at this year’s Golden Globes. It was there that Glover talked candidly about being cast as a young Lando Calrissian, and he does feel the pressure of Billy Dee Williams.

“Lando’s a big deal. He’s the first toy I ever got,” Glover explained. “It’s interesting, when you have something iconic in a range when people pay attention to it, it’s hard. You want to live up to the expectation, but you can only live up to your own.”

The actor continued, saying, “I just want to have fun. I know the directors Phil (Lord) and Chris (Miller) and I love the guy (Alden Ehrenreich) who is playing Han. It’s gonna be a fun time.”

This is not the first time Glover has talked about his role in the Star Wars universe. During a roundtable interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the actor reminisced about what Lando meant to him as a child.

“It was the first action figure I ever had. I remember my dad giving it to me. I had a Darth Vader one and this one that I lost the cape,” Glover recalled. “The lightsaber came out of the arm, and I ripped that out. I remember Lando really well. He was like the only black guy in space. And he was the cool one. I just realized, he still has to be cool. And cool is an interesting thing.”
