Let’s face it: Han Solo is about as Force sensitive as a rock. Over the course of Star Wars‘ history, the space rogue has had his ups and downs with the Force given his connection with the Skywalkers. And, for anyone who has seen Star Wars: The Force Awakens, they will know how greatly the mystical power ends up altering his family’s once-peaceful life. Han Solo may have deep-seeded skepticism of the Force running through him, but that doesn’t mean he has not encountered events which were influenced its cosmic mysticism. If a new report is true, Han Solo may have been exposed to the Force’s mysterious ways long before he came in contact with Luke and Leia.

Over on Making Star Wars, the vetted fan-site has reported a source told editor-in-chief Jason Ward about a character which will appear in the Han Solo standalone. Ward said he was at Star Wars Celebration when he learned that a character named Dryden Vos would reportedly be a “major cast member” in the film. And, now, fans are speculating the character is really just a familiar Jedi who’s adopted a new name much in the way Ben Kenobi did unto Obi-Wan Kenobi.
If you are a diehard Star Wars fan, the surname Vos will be a familiar one. Does the name Quinlan Vos ring any bells? For anyone familiar with the Star War Legends contents, Quinlan was a fan-favorite Jedi who operated during the prequel era. The character appeared in several comics and books before he even had a very brief part in the Star Wars films.
Known for his striking black hair and yellow war paint, Quinlan was a focal character during the Republic run as he eventually went undercover as a spy for the Republic. He joined the Confederacy to unlock its secrets, fell in love, and then managed to convert Khaleen Hentz to the Republic.
Quinlan also appeared throughout Star Wars: The Clone Wars. The show depicted the Jedi as a highly unconventional one, and he nearly fell to the dark side.
What’s most interesting is that Han Solo has met with Quinlan before in the comics. Star Wars Tales #11 saw the Jedi encounter a younger iteration of the pilot. So, somewhere in the canon, there is a precedent for Han Solo having met the character as a teenager. For now, fans will have to wait and see how this report will play out. Lucasfilm has not commented on the rumor, so Dryden Vos (or Quinlan Vos) will have to stay a theory for now.
Han Solo: A Star Wars Story is filming now under directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller for a May 25, 2018 release. Alden Ehrenreich stars as a young Han Solo and Joonas Suotamo as Chewbacca in the era before Star Wars: A New Hope, before they met Leia and Luke and embarked on a galaxy-saving adventure. Donald Glover also stars as Lando Calrissian, with Woody Harrelson, Thandie Newton, Phoebe Waller-Bridge, and Emilia Clarke in as-yet-unrevealed co-starring roles.
