So, be warned! Possible spoilers may lie ahead!

As reported by Youtuber Mike Zeroh, the creator has pointed out del Toro may be associated with a familiar Star Wars role. Zeroh noted the site WikiWand said the actor would be playing Vikrum Fett, but the site soon changed del Toro’s role to TBA. However, some fans are now running with the possibility that del Toro may be playing the son of Boba Fett, a major antagonist from the original Star Wars trilogy.

For fans, Boba Fett has a complex history outside of the official Star Wars canon. In the Star Wars Legends universe, he was resurrected and continued on with various missions. There is no direct mention of the villain having a son named Vikrum, but fans have latched onto to the hope of del Toro debuting this new character. By bringing the Fett legacy to the new Star Wars trilogy, the franchise would be reminding fans of the franchise’s larger canon, and the character is a well-known one even amongst casual fans. A standalone film based on Boba Fett was even being developed at one point by Lucasfilm, so it is possible the character’s legacy will be reignited in Star Wars: The Last Jedi.

Of course, there is no official confirmation of the rumors by either Lucasfilm or del Toro. The actor has been notably vague about his work with Star Wars as is most of the cast. In the past, the star would only say his role was on similar to a villain. However, Zeroh’s information source is far from vetted, so dedicated Star Wars junkies will want to approach the rumor with a grain of salt.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi, from writer/director Rian Johnson, is in post-production now for a December 15, 2017 release. The film follows-up and continues the story of the next generation of the saga as Rey, Poe, Finn, and Kylo Ren find their place in the galaxy and follow the legacy of Luke Skywalker, Leia, and Han Solo. Daisy Ridley returns to star as Rey, with other returning stars John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Peter Mayhew, Andy Serkis, Anthony Daniels, Lupita Nyong’o Mark Hamill, and Carrie Fisher as General Leia Organa. Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern join the cast in as-yet-unrevealed roles.
