The heart of The Walking Dead games from Telltale has been Clementine since the beginning, and she will also play an important role in the upcoming season 3.

Just how big a role we don’t know yet, but during a sit down with IGN, Robert Kirkman revealed some additional details about the new season, and what it will have in common with the current comics and timeline, along with some expectations for Clementine.

“Season 3 of the Telltale series is really exciting to me, just because the way that the timeline works, season 3 will actually be getting pretty close to where we are in the comics concurrently, like the books that are coming out now are roughly in the same timeframe that season 3 will be in. There’s a lot of really cool, really exciting things coming that I don’t think people will expect. We’ll be checking in on Clementine again, so we’ll be seeing her, we’ll be seeing where she was at and what’s going on with her, which is going to be great, but also I think similar to the Michonne series, that there will probably be some more comic book elements that will be worked in, and in some interesting ways. I don’t want to reveal too much, but it will definitely kind of go hand in hand with the comics a little bit more than season 2 did.”

Coupled with the recently released Michonne, the games now seem to almost be on pace with the current comics, which should provide fans of the ongoing some additional incentive to seek out the games. Plus, it would allow for more current cameos, though the series hasn’t ever really made that a priority. Either way, more Clementine is always a positive thing.

Season 3 is set to arrive later this year.
