Gregory’s return to the Hilltop is as unpleasant as it should be in a new clip from The Walking Dead.

After betraying Rick’s army and the Alexandria, Hilltop, and Kingdom communities, Gregory returns to his Hilltop home in hope of finding refuge in the apocalypse. To his own surprise, he is greeted by the community’s new leader Maggie and her lack of desire to see him. Of course, audiences already know Gregory lies from the start of the conversation, as he claims not to know who Father Gabriel is after showing up to the Hilltop in his car.
“I live here,” Gregory claims. “This is my home. I built this place. You weren’t here for that but some of us didn’t just show up.”
Still, Maggie quickly accuses him of betraying the entire community and its cause by going to talk with Negan and the Saviors.
“I was working for the side of sanity,” Gregory says, trying to defend himself and his decision. “I was working for peace!”
“The throwing out the families lines was all Negan,” Gregory adds. “He made me say those horrible things! I went to them in the interest of furthering good faith diplomacy. I tried to save lives. Some people without opinions colored by a pre-occupation with vengeance might call that heroic.”
Maggie isn’t budging. “You were looking out for yourself,” she said. “You went there to betray us, to warn Negan that we were gonna fight. That’s what you told Cal when you dragged him there. It’s why Cal left you there.”
Whether or not Gregory manages to make his way into the Hilltop, with Maggie showing him mercy rather than banishing him into the harsh world outside, will be seen in Sunday’s Episode 8×03, titled, “Monsters.”
