While the show is aiming to shake things up with its return, one factor of the series will remain: the violence. Speaking to ComicBook.com in an exclusive interview, Madison Clark actress Kim Dickens spilled the details about what to expect from the brutal batch of upcoming episodes.

“Once we hit to land, it really started to take off and once we got off the boat and hit to land and start to navigate and learn our way through the apocalypse,” Dickens said. “Season 3, it just starts off epically violent. I mean, we find ourselves, at was once the US-Mexico border and we’re taken captive by a group of militia men and I think this season starts off in an epic way.”

“It starts of that way, it’s just bigger than life. And I think our characters really have gone to their apocalyptic personas. We realize how global that the problem is and it’s just all around fighting for survival. So I think it’s an exciting season.”

As for Dickens’ Madison character, she is ready to embrace the dark new world around her.

“I don’t know if it’s a mental state,” Dickens said. “I think it’s more of a primitive state. And I think she, at this point, I think Madison is more, is darker and merciless this time. I think she realizes brutality is a currency and doesn’t hesitate to use it.”

As for the major upcoming death which has been teased by showrunner Dave Erickson, Dickens wasn’t ready to spill the beans on who is getting taken out but is staying on her toes when learning the next events of the show. “We’re all like, flipping through the scripts when we get them pretty quickly and anxiety,” Dickens said. “But it’s just the nature of the show, really. I mean, it’s the nature of this kind of show. You have to know that there’s risk involved so, it can happen.”
