The Walking Dead‘s seventh season has come under quite a bit of scrutiny, lately.

Season 7 has spanned merely a week of apocalyptic time despite running for over six weeks already. Since Negan debuted and bashed the skulls of Glenn and Abraham, very little has happened to move the plot along. It’s been weeks of set up for what loyal fans hope will be a tremendous payoff in the back half of the season.

Still, many fans are very frustrated.

They’re frustration is not unfounded, however. Week 2 of Season 7 introduced us to Ezekiel, for example, in one of the show’s most beloved episodes. Since, we have not seen or heard of the extravagant king and his thriving Kingdom community. It’s been over a month.

Really, a lot has happened in Season 7. However, the storylines have been happening concurrently but told in different weeks. If the show had meshed all of the stories together over the past six weeks, the fans may be singing a different tune (and not dropping their show from their Sunday nights).

Instead, The Walking Dead has focused singularly on one character or group in each week. Week 3 saw Daryl’s entrapment at the Sanctuary, Week 4 followed Negan around Alexandria for 90-minutes, Week 5 saw Maggie and Sasha becoming part of the Hilltop (with a splash of Carl, Enid, Rick, and Michonne) and Week 6 dove into Tara and Heath’s scavenging story which had been all but forgotten by some fans.

With two episodes left of The Walking Dead in 2016, fans are bloodthirsty and impatient as they hope to see Rick and Alexandria rise up against Negan.

The following slides examine some fans opinions after the latest episode.

Season 2

In defense of Swear, the episode may have felt more compelling if there weren’t more interesting (and pressing) matters going on around the rest of the apocalypse. Tara’s encounter with Oceanside was an intense, yet still fun, hour of television but with fans focused on Rick and Negan’s future, they’re tough to satisfy with anything else.

The same fan agrees, single-focus episodes are acceptable but are happening too often in Season 7.

On the contrary, some fans appreciate the bottle episodesย

Sloppy?

Some fans are outright blaming the writers for their dissatisfaction with The Walking Dead Season 7. Shaun Frye says the team is doing a “sloppy job”of telling the story so far this season — clearly not a fan of the bottled episodes.

And on the other hand, some fans feel like the show has given up.

Giving Up

The ratings have shown that the threats of abandoning the show if Glenn died were nto empty, seeing the 17 million to 12.4 million viewership drop from Week 1 to Week 2 but the bottled episodes may have turned other off from watching since.

Clearly, some people want to see more of Ezekiel and the other compelling characters already introduced in Season 7, rather than meeting more characters.

Worst episode ever?

7 out of 10

Other fans found the positives from Swear. Denise Esterline was satisfied by “sand walkers, female survivors, Oceanside, betrayal, dried fish” and Tara flipping off a kid. After all, the episode was not a bad episode as stated earlier. Some fans will appreciate it for what it was while others clearly developed frustration because of the timing.

Esterline’s opinion is one which is shared by several fans, which clearly consist.

The Faithful

Twitter user Rick Grimmy is a huge fan of the bottle episodes. 702, 705, and 706 followed Ezekiel, Maggie, and Tara, respectively, and satisfied this fan as a result.

Others agree, the bottle episodes are important parts of The Walking Dead’s story which will pay off further down the line.

Some fansย love them some Tara.
