While fans are largely occupied by trying to figure out exactly what’s going on in the final moments which saw an aged Rick waking up in bed with a cane not far from his reach, there was one particular instance which may have indicated an important story beat from the comics is coming in Season 8.
The moment sees several characters dying in a trailer already filled with war, action, and gunfire, however if it is accurately adapting a key moment from the comics, some well known characters will be bowing out of the AMC series to match their black and white counterparts.
Potential spoilers for The Walking Dead Season 8 follow!
The Moment

In the Season 8 trailer’s 4:22 mark, a group of soldiers appearing to belong to the Kingdom are done down outside of an industrial park.
It’s the knee pads and armor which the characters, mostly appearing to be extras, which mark them as Kingdom soldiers. Each is heavily armed and appears to be standing guard when someone or a group opens fire on them, taking down a large portion of them in an instant. Further from the camera, the rest of the group is seen running.
While there is no way to tell for sure, it appears one of these soldiers is not wearing the combat gear the Kingdom provies. In fact, deep in the background, the character appears to resemble Jordan Woods-Robinson’s Eric.ย
Here’s why that is so important…
In The Comics

In The Walking Dead comics, Eric is killed while Rick’s group attempts to raid one of the more heavily armed Savior hideouts.ย
In issue #118, the character is shot in the head, collapsing into his boyfriend Aaron’s arms. Aaron briefly grieves for his fallen boyfriend before continuing the fight. However, in the same issue, King Ezekiel is leading a charge on a separate Savior outpost. His group believes to have the upper hand on the Saviors, however, quickly learns the Saviors were prepared for the fight. Several characters die in the issue, but Richard is among those in Ezekiel’s army who are killed.
With Richard already being dead, if the TV series is looking for an impactfulย death during this ambush sequence’s TV adaptation, Eric’s location may be swapped because either way he would be eliminated.
The trailer also offers a moment which sees Aaron rallying an army for a fight but it appears to be an alternate location than this apparent ambush.
