‘The Walking Dead’ Season 8 Premiere Gets Extended Runtime

The Walking Dead‘s Season 8 premiere and 100th overall episode will be bigger than most — literally.

Episode 8×01 of the AMC series is scheduled to run from 9 pm ET to 10:07 pm ET, giving in a 67 minute run time, including commercials. The episode will be followed by a massive, live two-hour episode of Talking Dead from the Greek Theater in Los Angeles.

In reality, the Season 8 premiere will be following a trend set by several episodes in Season 7 of The Walking Dead. For example, the midseason 7 premiere ran for 73 minutes, directly followed by episodes airing for 66 minutes and 68 minutes, respectively. The Season 7 premiere ran for just one minute shorter than the Season 8 premiere is scheduled for, with a 66-minute slot allocated to fulfilling Negan’s introduction 364 days before Episode 100.

The Season 8 premiere of The Walking Dead is directed by executive producer and VFX guru Greg Nicotero, who also directed the Season 7 premiere and finale episodes, with a few more in between.

“This season, Rick brings ‘All Out War’ to Negan and his forces,” the Season 8 synopsis reads. “The Saviors are larger, better-equipped, and ruthless — but Rick and the unified communities are fighting for the promise of a brighter future. The battle lines are drawn as they launch into a kinetic, action-packed offensive.”

The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead airs Sunday nights at 9 pm ET on AMC. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017.
