The Walking Dead may have been slipping away from Rick Grimes and becoming the Negan show through Season Seven, but Rick will take back the reins starting with Episode 100 and through the rest of Season Eight.

The Walking Dead‘s executive producer and VFX guru Greg Nicotero revealed just how Season Eight begins, and it will instantly let fans know who is the centerpiece of the show going forward.
“We start season eight with a close-up shot of Rick Grimes, and we soon feel that he is the one who dominates the plot, not Negan,” Nicotero said.
This is good news for fans who thought the AMC series might be slipping away from Rick Grimes and the core cast of characters as the show expanded in its sixth and seventh seasons. Additional cast members, storylines, and communities paired with only so much bandwidth into hour-long (and sometimes slightly extended) episodes meant things were sometimes stretched thin. With Rick Grimes returning to lead the charge as the show reaches its inevitable war arc, fans are going to be excited on Sunday nights starting in late October.
By the sound of Nicotero’s description, fans may have gotten a look at this early moment in the Season Eight trailer. It may have been the popular thumbnail image which sees Rick standing at the wall with the sun offering a silhouette-type shot or the shocking scene from the closing moments which sees him bearded and in bed.
In the meantime, the first new look at The Walking Dead Season Eight will arrive on September 10th during a preview special airing ahead of Fear the Walking Dead‘s midseason premiere.
The Walking Dead‘s sibling series Fear the Walking Dead returns September 10th. The Walking Dead will return for its eighth season on October 22, 2017. The Season Eight premiere will mark 100 episodes overall for the popular AMC series. For complete coverage and insider info all season long, follow @BrandonDavisBD on Twitter.
