So, Daryl and Carol finally ended up back in the same room and ship fans are seriously rejoicing. There’s just one little problem with the whole thing; HE STRAIGHT UP LIED TO HER!

Carol still doesn’t know about the deaths of Glenn and Abraham at the hands of Negan and the Saviors. When she asked Daryl if anyone was hurt, he just assured her that everyone was fine.

Why would he do that?

Earlier in the episode, Daryl and Morgan have a conversation in which Morgan explains that Carol shouldn’t know about what happened. He knows that if she finds out what happened, she will be the first one on the way to fight the Saviors.

It’s easy to tell that Daryl didn’t like lying to her, but he also cares about her more than he does any other person. If a lie can help keep Carol safe, and away from the entire fight, he’s going to do it.

It’s clear that Daryl wants to fight – he wants to take the war to Negan – but he’s not willing to lose Carol in the process. He’s already lost too much at this point, and he’s not ready to risk anything else.
