The Walking Dead is fairly straightforward when it comes to world building — characters are introduced, they often bring some new real estate, and the show plows on. However, some character have had more to offer the series than new land but haven’t been given the opportunity to do so.

The world of The Walking Dead is largely left uncharted. The sibling series Fear the Walking Dead has done its part in expanding the Dead universe, bringing viewers and characters to southern California and Mexico while the original Walking Dead show remains based on the East Coast of the United States.

Still, there is plenty more this world is capable of revealing in interesting ways and certain characters who can (or could have) guided the new adventures…

The Astronaut

Many fans who exclusively watch The Walking Dead, leaving Fear the Walking Dead off of their schedules, are unaware of the cosmonaut introduced to the Dead universe.ย

Late in Fear the Walking Dead‘s third season, the Walking Dead sibling series introduced a cosmonaut by way of radio communication. Victor Strand made contact with a man aimlessly floating through space from the Abigail yacht, learning what the audience knew from knowledge provided by The Walking Dead: the entire world had gone done. The Russian cosmonaut had watched the whole thing from space.

The conversation turned to quoting some of the two characters’ favorite authors and fantasizing about popping champagne together but if Cosmonaut Vaschenkoย were to return to the universe or even get a one-shot, standalone episode with his perspective of the world following, fans would get some knowledge they have been hungry for since the earliest days of the either series.

Dr. Jenner

The Walking Dead‘s first season had a heavy dose of improv by comparison to its comic book source material. Among the deviations was Dr. Edwin Jenner and his explanation of what happened to the world.

While Rick was in his coma, the world around him fell to the zombie apocalypse. It is a time span which Fear the Walking Dead began to touch upon but ultimately avoided by isolating its characters on the ocean as the world went down. By the time they would reach shore, it was all gone.ย

CDCย scientist Dr. Jennerย contained a wealth of knowledge regarding the zombie virus and likely could have gotten closer to discovering its origin or a cure than any other face on the series. Unfortunately, he was wiped from the world with a massive explosion in the Season 1 finale.ย

Morales

Missing since the show’s first season, the story of Morales simply has to be told.

Morales never served as a key player in The Walking Dead. He was present for Rick’s earliest days and generally helped mash zombie brains when necessary but elected to head to Birmingham, Alabama with his family rather than pursue answers and sanctuary at the CDCย in Atlanta.ย

While Alabama will inevitably have suffered the same fate Atlanta and the rest of the world exposed by The Walking Dead, Morales had to have encountered another community along his journey if he were to survive more than a few days on the road. Perhaps his kids grew up to be survivors just like Carl, or maybe he lost his family in the first few hours on the road… Either way, Morales’ expansion to The Walking Dead world is one no fan would complain about watching.

The Hospital

While the Slabtownย episodes of The Walking Dead were some of the less exciting sequences, the characters living in the Atlanta hospital were left largely unexplored. Their arrival and community building journey to this location was up for interpretation and,ย by the time they were last seen, their fate was unsealed.

Did the Grady Memorial bunch finally begin thriving in their tiny hospital community after Dawn died and Rick’s group left them? Did they expand and take in more survivors? Or did they all perish in the aftermath of losing their leader?

Small groups like the hospital bunch have to be evolving somewhere, much like Alexandria is by building communication lines with the Hilltop and Kingdom communities. Might someone like Negan have taken the group out or did a new, respectable leader emerge and take control of the group?

Tobias

Tobias may not have had too much knowledge to offer Dead fans by the time he exited Fear the Walking Dead for his own journey but he always did have a jump on grasping the new world before anyone else around him.ย

Having left Madison and ventured off alone, Tobias likely encountered some interesting characters and became a part of another group if he found a way to survive. Being optimistic, it is unlikely both Morales and Tobias had dark fates immediately after leaving their respective shows. Maybe fate brought them together and they’re ruling some sort of midwesternย U.S. community which is absolutely thriving with corn and other farmed resources supplying the community?! Or… maybe they’re both dead…
