Since Paul Rovia – AKA Jesus – appeared on The Walking Dead in season six, he’s been one of the most intriguing characters on the show. The guy surrounds himself in mystery, and he’s easily one of the most skilled warriors in Walking Dead history.

Jesus is also a fan-favorite character from the comic books. He went from dangerous stranger, to one of Rick’s closest confidants, in a short amount of time.
There’s also been a ton of conversation in the past regarding the character’s sexuality. If you ask a comic reader about Jesus, they’ll be quick to point out that he – like Aaron and Eric – is an openly gay character. These same readers have been hoping that the show will explore this part of Paul’s character.
While there hasn’t been any official word on whether or not the series will dive into Jesus’ sexuality, actor Tom Payne believes that it will in the future. When talking to ComicBook last month, Payne revealed it’s probably in the plans.
“Yeah, [he] will be,” Payne said. “I can’t tell you how that might be addressed in the show or how it would come across, but yeah. Essentially he is the same as he is the comic books in that regard.”
In the past, Robert Kirkman has also confirmed that Jesus is definitely gay on the show, it just hasn’t been officially addressed yet.
Since this week’s episode is featuring the characters of The Hilltop, it’s likely Jesus will be around. Could this be the time the character’s sexuality is officially revealed?
The Walking Dead is currently ranked fifth in ComicBook.com’s user rankings. The only shows earning better rankings are Stranger Things, Game of Thrones, Daredevil, and The Flash. Be sure to head over and rank your favorite shows!
