Lucille is a lady and she shall be treated like one. In real life, too.
As Jeffrey Dean Morgan has come across some free time in The Walking Dead's production off-season, he is making the rounds on TV talk shows to discuss his role as Negan on the AMC series. Aside from not dishing out spoilers for the rest of Season 7, AMC has Morgan living under one other rule which is a major bummer: he's not allowed to bring Lucille. The actor revealed as much while appearing on ABC's Popcorn with Peter Travers.
She is kept under lock and key controlled by the network.
"On set she's never far from me but unfortunately they're not letting me take her on the talk show circuit," Morgan said. "I don't know why. There's a whole team that handles Lucille."
Celebrities have handlers. Lucille, being one of the most famous people (or things) from The Walking Dead, is no exception.
"Lucille has handlers," Morgan said. "They have her in a hard plastic case. I refer to her as a her of course. It's a little bit of a love affair going on between myself and Lucille but there's a guy that takes care of her and she's in a foam case and I grab her and boom, there's Negan. It does a great job of influencing where I go with my character."
Negan himself would likely never be the one who has to clean his precious baseball bat. He has people who do just about everything for him. So, it would make sense that the bat is cleaned, though. After all, she's often covered in the blood of people who survived until meeting her.
"We clean her," Morgan said. "We get all that blood and brain matter on her."
Negan and Lucille will have to flex theirm muscles when The Walking Dead returns for the rest of Season 7 in 2017. As the story stands now, Rick Grimes is ready to really his allies and formulate a plan to take him down.
