The most significant properties in Hollywood nearly always find themselves locked in an eternal struggle with a competitor. Star Trek and Star Wars have been competing since the 1970s, and with the streaming boom, the debate over which one is better has only intensified. DC and Marvel find themselves in the same boat, but one company is clearly lagging behind the other. Marvel Studios has made Captain America and Iron Man’s home a powerhouse that can reel in $1 billion whenever it wants, while the good folks over at Warner Bros. Discovery are only just now waking up, finally putting the right people in place to build something special.

James Gunn finds himself in charge of the creative decisions at DC Studios. Rather than following the Marvel formula, he’s walking down his own path by being patient with his characters. However, he hasn’t forgotten where he came from, as the DC Universe just confirmed that a popular Marvel hero is very much canon in his franchise.
Peacemaker Season 2 Shows Some Love to a Popular Marvel Hero

Like the MCU, the DCU is messing around with the multiverse. Christopher Smith is unhappy with his life in his reality in Peacemaker because he has too much red in his ledger, and no one will cut him any slack. When an opportunity arises to travel to another universe and take the place of his doppelganger there, he takes it, believing that he’s doing himself and his friends a favor. However, Leota Adebayo, Emilia Harcourt, and the rest of the 11th Street Kids can’t stand to see him go, so they put a plan in motion to get him back. Adrian Chase offers up his home as a base of operations, and the group gets to work getting the Quantum Unfolding Chamber back online.
After a brief conversation with Adrian about the contraband in his basement, the group returns to work. Finding the correct door proves to be easy, but when everyone walks through, they’re shocked at how well Chris is living. There’s not much time to look around, though, as Keith Smith arrives and offers Harcourt a ride to A.R.G.U.S. Wanting to go on his own mission, Adrian also leaves the house to find his variant. It doesn’t take him long to complete his mission, and the reunion between the two Vigilantes is hilarious, as they both point at each other and reference the popular Spider-Man meme that features two versions of the hero pointing at each other. While it’s nice to know that some things are a constant throughout a multiverse, the bit in Peacemaker Season 2 probably isn’t a tease of bigger things.
Don’t Expect a Marvel/DC Crossover Anytime Soon

Since taking the reins of the DCU, Gunn has been asked a million questions, ranging from his plans for Batman to how long it’ll take the Justice League to form in his universe. He’s always game for speculation, including when the subject matter is a crossover between DC and Marvel. The filmmaker made it clear that, while he believes there’s potential for a crossover, it’s probably not something people want in their heart of hearts. He thinks the focus should be on telling good stories, not big ones, and so far, he’s been putting his money where his mouth is.
That’s not to say circumstances couldn’t change in the future. After all, the DCU could find itself in the same situation that the MCU is in now, being desperately in need of wins. However, that’s not a problem for today, which means the best that Gunn and Co. can do is provide a little shout-out to their friends across the aisle. And it’s a good one, too, as it touches on just how absurd the idea of the multiverse is.
Peacemaker Season 2 is streaming on HBO Max.
