In July 2015, Disney released Descendants, a made-for-TV-movie that explored the lives of the children spawned by the wicked and infamous villains Cruella de Vil, Maleficent, the Evil Queen and Jafar. 6.6 million people tuned in for its premiere and 10.5 million viewed it in Early DVR Playback, making it the the fifth most watched original movie in cable history.

With that sort of success, it was no surprise that Disney order a follow-up. And tonight, the studio finally released the very first trailer for Descendants 2.
The story deepens in the music-driven sequel to the global smash hit “Descendants,” as the teenage sons and daughters of Disney’s most infamous villains — Mal, Evie, Carlos and Jay (also known as Villain Kids or VKs) — try to find their place in idyllic Auradon. When the pressure to be royally perfect becomes too much for Mal, she returns to her rotten roots on the Isle of the Lost where her archenemy Uma, the daughter of Ursula, has taken her spot as self-proclaimed queen of the run-down town. Uma, still resentful over not being selected by Ben to go to Auradon Prep with the other Villain Kids, stirs her pirate gang including Captain Hook’s son Harry and Gaston’s son Gil, to break the barrier between the Isle of the Lost and Auradon, and unleash all the villains imprisoned on the Isle, once and for all.

The film is directed by Kenny Ortega, based on a script written by Sara Parriott and Josann McGibbon.
A far-reaching, unprecedented and simultaneous premiere has been set for the Disney Channel Original Movie Descendants 2 across five networks within the Disney|ABC Television Group, Friday, July 21 (8:00 p.m. EDT), on Disney Channel, ABC, Disney XD, Freeform and Lifetime.
