Fox Animated Series Creator Breaks Silence on Cancellation: “Animation Never Dies”

Fox’s Animation Domination block has taken a major hit as one fan-favorite animated series came to an end after five seasons, and one of the creators behind it all has shared their thoughts on it following the release of its final episode. The Great North has come to an end five years after it first began airing with Fox, but fans were fearing the end was coming after the release of Season 5’s finale. Not only did it end with an extended musical season looking back on its run, but its social media accounts were urging fans to watch it before it was gone.

It was then confirmed by members of the staff on social media that their work on The Great North had come to an end, and further revealed by Fox that the animated series had indeed been cancelled after five strong seasons with the network. The Great North series co-creator Wendy Molyneux had also surprisingly shared a message to fans after the final episode aired on Instagram, and bid goodbye to the canceled series with hopes for the future, “You never know! Animation never dies!”

“Before I sundown this account, I wanna say a huge thanks to everyone who worked on The Great North! Some of the best people in the world! You made a beautiful show! And it still exists!,” Molyneux shared with a special message on Instagram following the end of The Great North. “And probably more importantly, if you are a line producer, exec, or showrunner and you are hiring, hit us up for staff in all categories. Some great professionals we worked with for years and can vouch for,” the creator continued.

“And thanks to our small but proud group of fans,” the creator continued before sharing a bit of hope for a potential future. “Keep recommending it. You never know! Animation never dies! Finally, don’t forget to stare at nature’s majesty in wild wonder and say ‘Hot dog.’” The Great North wrapped up its run with Fox this past September with five seasons and 97 episodes under its belt. It’s a strong run by any means as there are many animated shows (for adult or otherwise) that never get to that point. But that also doesn’t mean a continuation is impossible.

Animated Shows Are Never Truly Cancelled Anymore

Animation is in a much different era these days as there are many classic series making a return with new episodes years after they had initially been brought to an end. Revivals for Futurama and King of the Hill have found new lives and success with Hulu years after their own cancellations, so it’s entirely possible that The Great North will get its own chance at that kind of revival someday. It’s a successful show under Fox’s umbrella of brands, and has a fanbase that strongly supports it.

The Great North‘s back catalog of episodes are now streaming with Hulu, and that will likely be the best way to show your support as a fan at the moment. In order for fans to prove that interest is there (and thus get the attention of those who make the decisions), that’s the best way to do so and drive those numbers up. This cancellation news might also sadly be the first time many check out the show, but that’s okay as there’s plenty of it to enjoy for now. There might be more someday, but for now this is the end.
