On the Futurama Reddit board, a user named BigShowSJG made a post titled, “Got off the phone with Netflix”. According to the user, the streaming service has chosen not to renew the Futurama contract with Fox, causing the entire series to leave when its contract ends this month.

This was the original post:

Apparently FOX pulled the license for Futurama. Which means officially everything After the movies will be staying on Netflix for now, and everything before and including movies will be removed July 1st. Additionally, I was sent this link for “title requests” as essentially a petition to have Netflix push Fox more to renew the license. Please request Futurama seasons 1-6.

The comments brought about an uproar from fans, who have had the show available to stream for a number of years.

It’s gone far enough already that a petition has begun for Netflix to renew the contract with the series, keeping on the site even longer.

This petition – which you can find here – has garnered over 1,400 supporters at the time of writing this article.

Fans have also taken to Twitter to voice their outrage, with some even threatening to stop subscribing to the streaming service.

This may be extreme, but one of Netflix‘s biggest hits could be on the way out.

Hatched from the mind of The Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Futurama blasts contemporary culture and science fiction alike with an animated comedy barrage. Hapless NYC pizza guy Philip J. Fry (voiced by Billy West) makes a fateful delivery to a cryonics lab on New Year’s Eve, 1999 when he’s accidentally flash-frozen until the next millennium. Reawakened in 31st century New New York, he finds work at his great-great-etc. grandnephew’s Planet Express delivery service. Together with his hedonist robot buddy Bender (voiced by John DiMaggio) and cyclopsian love interest Leela (voiced by Katey Sagal), Fry travels to the farthest reaches of the universe. Along the way they discover strange alien life forms, velour-clad lotharios, freaky mutants, intergalactic conspiracies and the disembodied heads of celebrities throughout the ages.
