Joe Quesada — the Chief Creative Officer at Marvel — sat down with ComicBook.com and praised the series, calling it “breathtaking.”

“It’s insane. I don’t want to jinx it or hype it up too much but the show is really, really breathtaking. It really is,” Quesada reflected. “Steve Lightfoot and the entire cast from Jon on down have added dimensions to The Punisher and taken this character that feel expected and feel like the character but it’s something totally new.”

While the show is something complete new, Quesada said that fans of the gun-wielding antihero will still notice the themes of some of the character’s comic book writers had previously laid out.

“You will immediately sense influences all the way from Gerry Conway to Garth Ennis in the show, but it’s something totally, totally new,” said Quesada. “I cannot express how proud I am with that show.”

Quesada’s interview with us can be seen in full. As for the public release of the clip shown in Hall H last night, be sure to stay tuned to ComicBook.com for all of the latest SDCC coverage.
