MCU Star Missing for 6 Years Drops Biggest Hint Yet of 2026 Return

Once dismissive about a potential return to the small screen as Luke Cage, it seems like Mike Colter has (sort of) changed his tune about reprising his role with Daredevil: Born Again gearing up to air its second season. Having originally popped up in Jessica Jones before gaining his own spinoff, and then appearing again in The Defenders, it looks like we might be able to count on seeing Luke Cage back on our screens sooner rather than laterโ€”and in a very exciting way.ย

Back in March, Colter said about a possible return to the MCU, “I still have hopes for it. I don’t think about it anymore. I think there’s always time. I don’t think it’s impossible. Anything can happen.” And last year he stated, “I would love to explore it, if they found some story, some way, somewhere, to take it. And I’m happy that Charlie Cox and those are getting it rebooted, but I don’t have any [idea if Luke Cage is getting rebooted]. I’m not holding anything back.”

In Daredevil: Born Again, There Could Be A New Future For Luke Cage

It seems totally possible that we could see Luke Cage come back as a key player in Daredevil’s army, alongside other fan-favorite names like Jessica Jones, Moonknight, and Iron Fist. And while Colter has never kept his feelings about a return under wraps, he has been fairly blasรฉ about the possibility of Luke Cageโ€™s return to the screen even with this easy tie-in. This changed slightly last weekend, when at a Q&A session at the Edmonton Expo, the actor teased, “I donโ€™t know why people keep asking me this. There are no signs. Itโ€™s not like theyโ€™ve just recently revived one of the Marvel Netflix shows.”

When asked about his feelings on the kind of figure he would like Luke Cage to be in a new role, he stated, “Did you see what they did to Hulk? Come on, man, if they’re gonna do that to Hulk, theyโ€™d have Thanos absolutely wipe the floor with Luke,โ€ before saying that he would like Cage to remain true to his roots as a more street beat hero. And when the idea of a Daredevil reboot versus a simple continuation of the story that originally appeared on Netflix, Colter said, “They should have never tried [to reboot it.] No, no, I don’t know what that was about. I’m like, ‘Well, yeah, duh,’ It was not broke, so don’t fix it.”

Luke Cage Returning For Daredevil Would Be A Great Move For Marvel

Letโ€™s face it, Colter is right about the kind of hero Luke Cage should be. In their current age of universe ending threats and existential crisis, Marvel could use more โ€œstreet-levelโ€ heroes, especially rallying around Daredevil. Sure, Thunderbolts* has a finger somewhere near the pulse of this vibe, but these are still former big deal superheroes, and the world deserves more Luke Cage, Jessica Jones, and Frank Castle.
