One of the Best Comedies on Netflix Is Leaving This Week (And Heading to a Rival Streaming Service)

It’s the name of the game in the world of streaming: titles are never there to stay. Every month, as major streaming services release dozens of new TV shows and movies, others exit. Netflix’s September 2025 content list not only features some anticipated new arrivals, including the final episode of Wednesday Season 2 and beloved movies like E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial and Bridesmaids, but also several heavy losses. This week, the Netflix streaming library will suffer a massive blow when all seasons of one of the best and most hilarious comedies of all time leave the platform – but fans will still be able to stream it elsewhere.

Netflix subscribers only have a few more days to binge-watch The Good Place after the streamer’s deal with NBCUniversal expired. All four seasons and 53 episodes of the NBC sitcom, created by comedy legend Michael Schur and starring Kristen Bell as a corrupt saleswoman who mistakenly lands herself in the afterlife’s Good Place, are scheduled to exit Netflix on September 26. Fans of the series aren’t being left high and dry, though, as the complete series will begin streaming on Amazon’s Prime Video the same day it leaves Netflix.

Why You Should Watch The Good Place

The impending departure of The Good Place is a major loss for Netflix, which had been the streaming home of the series for several years. The show, which ran on NBC from 2016 until 2020, hails from Schur, the comedy genius behind other hits like Parks and Recreation and Brooklyn Nine-Nine. In a long list of credits that includes other comedy greats, The Good Place remains a standout in Schur’s career thanks to its hilarious sitcom humor, heartwarming moments, surprising plot twists, and endearing characters portrayed by a cast that includes Bell, Ted Danson, William Jackson Harper, Jameela Jamil, Manny Jacinto, and D’Arcy Carden.

All of Schur’s comedies can be considered must-watch television, and The Good Place is among those that viewers will easily want to revisit again and again. The series has an average Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 90% across all four seasons. It was just as well-loved by critics, too, and holds an average 97% critics’ score, with Seasons 2 and 4 both achieving the rare 100% rating. The sitcom even grabbed 13 Emmy nominations over the course of its four-season run, and it received a Peabody Award for its contributions to entertainment in 2019.

Other Titles Leaving Netflix This Month

Unfortunately for Netflix subscribers, The Good Place isn’t the only title departing the streamer this month. September 2025 has already seen beloved movies such as Anchorman, Barbarian, The Notebook, and The Polar Express exit. However, The Good Place will mark one of the final exits of the month, with only Seasons 1 and 2 of Chappelle’s Show set to follow on September 30th.

The long list of departures makes room for an even longer list of arrivals. Subscribers can look forward to upcoming Netflix additions like the third season of Alice in Borderland on September 25th, beloved rom-coms 10 Things I Hate About You and Sweet Home Alabama on September 28th, and the new Netflix original documentary Nightmares of Nature: Cabin in the Woods on September 30th.
