South Park Still Needs to Answer a Big Question About Randy

South Park Season 27 is now halfway through its run after several surprise delays, but there’s still a big question the animated series needs to answer about Randy Marsh’s future before the season comes to an end. South Park has been building towards a much bigger story that’s likely going to pay off as the season comes to an end, but at the same time there are many smaller stories going on through the season that have been haphazard at best thanks to the ever changing structure and path of the season. Some of these stories could have some significant impact for the future too.

South Park Season 27 has been airing its episodes on a biweekly basis (beyond this past week’s sudden delay), and the newest episode officially crossed the halfway mark of the season. This newest episode was not only the best of the season because of the extra time put into weaving together its many different ideas, but also set up more for the future. But even with all of the characters in the mix with the latest episode, there’s been no sign of Randy Marsh just yet. And the series still needs to reveal what he’s doing after Tegridy Farms.

South Park has made some big moves this season since it kicked off Season 27, and the one that has had the biggest consequence thus far has been with Episode 3, “Sickofancy.” The end of the episode saw Randy selling off Tegridy Farms, and bringing the infamous location to a close after seven long years of the series. This was the biggest change for Randy in such a long time as the series has been using the Tegridy Farms location as a core piece of its episodes for the past few years thus far.

But now that we’re two episodes out from the end of Tegridy Farms, there has yet to be an update on what’s been going on with Randy since. It makes a lot of sense as South Park is juggling a lot of characters around this season (as Episode 5 was the first one to actually feature all of the boys together in the same scene), and Randy has taken a step back from the spotlight as his stories tend to dominate the episodes he’s in. For balance’s sake, it makes sense he hasn’t been seen since Episode 3.

What Will South Park Do for Randy Moving Forward?

South Park will likely revisit Randy before the season comes to an end, but the big question remaining is what exactly the series will do for Randy heading into the future. There is a chance that the series can put him back in his geologist job seen before he became a marijuana farmer (or maybe return to his Lorde identity), but the best move forward might be just finding something else for him to do entirely. But that would also mean another significant change to his character design.

The reason we have yet to see Randy is likely because of that decision. If he’s no longer a scientist, he won’t look the same way he did in the earlier seasons much like how he had a significant design change for the Tegridy Farms era. If he enters another job entirely, it’s got to come with a huge episode explaining his new status quo moving forward. Not only that, but it’s also left a lot of questions in the air for the rest of the Marsh family too. Hopefully those answers will come soon.
