Early last year, there ws talk of the Underworld movie franchise being adapted into a TV series, but little came of it. The movie franchise released its fifth installment, Underworld: Blood Wars early this year, but based on the weak box office returns, it seems the Underworld movies don’t have the bite they used to – even with Kate Beckinsale still in the starring role.

A report now reveals that the Underworld TV series is indeed moving forward. In addition, franchise producer, co-creator, and Underworld 1&2 director Len Wiseman will be overseeing the series, through his Sketch Films production company.
In terms of what the TV version of Underworld will be, Wiseman shared the following with Deadline: “The series will be a pretty big departure from the films. I don’t want to say it’s more adult, but it’s definitely less comic book in its tone and character.”
This will be part of the career expansive trajectory that Wiseman is currently embarking on. In addition to this TV series, Wiseman will be making a return to the Die Hard franchise to helm Die Hard 6 (which is both a prequel and sequel), having already handled Live Free or Die Hard.
Wiseman is also continuing his TV expansion (Lucifer, Hawaii Five-O) by executive producing X-Men spinoff The Gifted as part of an overall deal with Fox, and that show has shot up to the top of most anticipated for the Fall 2017 season.
We’ll keep you updated on the status of the Underworld TV series.
