HBO‘s Westworld was a breakout hit for the network, giving them an heir to fulfill the void when Game of Thrones abdicates its, uh, throne after the show’s final season.

Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan’s exploration of sentience and morality in a theme park filled with human-like robots captivated audiences for ten episodes with mysteries and timeline shenanigans, before ending with a literal bang.

Fans will have to wait for much longer as we aren’t slated to see new episodes until 2018, meaning the show will sit out the entirety of 2017 without a premiere. But when it does come back, don’t expect some of your favorite characters to be the same as they were in the first season.

Evan Rachel Wood‘s character Dolores Abernathy had a rough awakening after learning her memories were jumbled—and the revelation of the Man In Black’s true identity. Then Ford adjusted her programming and gave her an awakening, which resulted in Anthony Hopkins’ character’s unfortunate demise as well as the deaths of many others.

That event is sure to rock the western theme park, its guests, and its investors in the second season, and Dolores won’t be the character you’re used to seeing, as Wood told EW.

“I’m really curious to see the unleashed version of her that we caught a glimpse of at the very end of the finale,” Wood said. “Those final seconds, I think we were seeing a completely different side to her, completely different programming and completely off of her leash, so I don’t think she will be the same person; she’ll be an evolved version.”

In the Westworld canon, “evolved” apparently means “murderous.”

Dolores and Teddy might not have the future they were programmed to, as James Marsden’s character appeared shocked at her course of action. With the revelation of BernArnold and Maeve breaking the cycle of her own programming, we might get some autonomy from the hosts as they head into Season 2.

Hopefully they magically film all of the episodes very soon and we get the new season soon—like, say, when Game of Thrones‘ seventh season ends? We’re not being unreasonable here, a year is a long time.

Westworld will return some time in 2018.
