Two of DreamWorks Animation’s All-Time Best Movies Are Returning to Streaming

The DreamWorks Animation library is one of the strongest around, with the studio behind hit franchises like Shrek, Kung Fu Panda, and How to Train Your Dragon. All of these movies tend to do well on various streaming services when they appear, but all of these franchises are also known to disappear from all major services from time to time. That has been the case for the original How to Train Your Dragon, which was surprisingly dropped from the big streamers after the release of the live-action remake, but the animated classic is finally returning next week.

The original How to Train Your Dragon is heading to Hulu on September 1st, bringing it back to a major streaming service for the first time in a month or two. That movie will be joined by its direct sequel, How to Train Your Dragon 2 (arguably the best of the trilogy), which has only been available on Prime Video of late. The third film in the series, How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World, isn’t streaming on any services.

The How to Train Your Dragon series is one of the biggest and most critically acclaimed for DreamWorks, which was swiftly proven by the impressive showing of the live-action remake at the box office this summer. Original director Dean DeBlois returned to helm the live-action version, which has gone on to gross more than $628 million at the global box office.

Surprisingly, that haul from the live-action film was good enough to make it the highest-grossing entry in the franchise. How to Train Your Dragon 2, released back in 2014, earned just over $621 million. That said, each entry has been a mammoth success for DreamWorks, with the lowest-performer of the bunch still hauling in nearly $500 million.

Coming Soon to Hulu

The How to Train Your Dragon movies are just a couple of the films hitting Hulu at the start of September. The first day of the month will actually see dozens of titles land on the service, including Clueless, Jennifer’s Body, Night at the Museum, School of Rock, and more.
