A biopic of the former wrestling superstar has been rumored for some time, but this is the first huge movement any related project has made. The film is titled Crossface, and will officially be moving forward (via The Wrap).
The film will be based on a script from Jake Goldberger and Sarah Coulter, itself based on the book “Ring of Hell: The Story of Chris Benoit and the Fall of the Pro Wrestling Industry” from author Matthew Randazzo V.
As for Alexander, she didn’t see a project like this in her immediate future, as she’s been working primarily on television on shows like Limitless, Supergirl, and Arrow.
“I was pretty certain I’d stay in TV rather than returning to the feature world, because the material just seems so much better in TV, especially in drama, but then ‘Crossface’ came my way,” Alexander said. “A heartbreaking, true story about the dark side of wrestlingโฆ I couldn’t say no to that.”
Crossface will chronicle Chris Benoit’s journey from aspiring athlete to top tier WWE superstar, but more importantly, it will provide insight into the events that occurred outside the ring, where Benoit took his own life only after killing his wife and son. Benoit was diagnosed with CTE after his death, a brain condition that occurs after repeated head trauma.
