The new world title, which is the King of the Mountain Championship unified with the TNA World Title, will be called the TNA Grand Champion. The King of the Mountain Championship had a lineage going back to the Legends Championship with Booker T in 2008. It was remade into the TNA Television Championship and the TNA Global Championship until being rechristened the KOTM Championship last June.

TNA’s World Championship came about in 2007 as well after the NWA pulled their titles from the organization after a five-year agreement. The difference here is that the rulings for the Grand Championship won’t be simply by wrestling matches alone. The TNA Grand Championship has a completely different set of rules on its own, which leans towards a more MMA-style of a ruling.

TNA Grand Championship matches will go 3 rounds, and there will be a team of judges choosing a winner based on points, but that’s if the match goes all 3 rounds. The names of the judges could differ from match to match, and no one judge has been named at this time.

As weird as this sounds, it’s not the first time it’s been used by a wrestling federation. In the mid 90’s, the AWF used this type of style to determine winners, but it slightly hindered the flow of the match. WCW also used a judges table early on to determine a winner if the match went to a time limit draw.

It’ll be interesting to see if TNA can pull this off as it’s somewhat different for professional wrestling matches, but this will definitely set them apart from other wrestling promotions that’s for sure.
