WCW stumbled upon a goldmine when they found Goldberg and booked him to be an unstoppable force within not only WCW but also the wrestling industry. While his run is forever remembered, it didn’t end as many would’ve hoped.
While he continued to net victories after his big defeat, the unprecedented streak came to an end against Kevin Nash at Starrcade. Thanks to Scott Hall and a taser gun, the streak was officially over, and with it some of the mystique that had carried Goldberg so far during his time in WCW.

Former WCW leader Eric Bischoff discussed that decision on the latest episode of Bischoff on Wrestling (via IWNerd). He said “We had been talking about it, from what I can recall, for a couple of months. As I have touched on in previous showsโฆ we were just running out of guys for Goldberg to go through. Once we got to point of whatever it was 173-0 or whatever it was (laughs). It was that point where we had to start telling stories. We had to expand the storytelling process with Bill. We knew it had to be done”
While they had been discussing the direction for a while, it wasn’t always Nash in that spot. Kevin Nash had a great deal of pull back then, and many believed that he was just out for his own best interests. Bischoff said they went through a variety of options before arriving at Nash. “It was probably a couple of months previously that we started discussing it and getting serious about it. In terms of, “Was it always going to be Nash?” No. We were exploring a lot of different opportunities. Because of what was going on and the sheer size of Kevin Nash he was the most believable and credible to tell that story”
Goldberg would later move to WWE for a rather disappointing run, especially coming off of the incredible run he experienced in WCW. His recent return though has so far been booked exceptionally well, and he’s expected to show up again in the Royal Rumble. Time will tell if this run ends on a better note.
