In 2001, WWE owner Vince McMahon and NBC mogul Dick Ebersol founded a new professional football organization that aimed to slam the NFL by injecting a bit of pro wrestling into football. The XFL, while grandiose, failed miserably. Despite it’s shortcomings, the league has been remembered fondly by many; even spurring an upcoming ESPN 30 for 30 documentary about the league’s ill-fated story. Now, fans of Vince’s failed 2001 experiment (No, I’m not talking about the WCW invasion angle) will be able to relive the league’s greatest moments (there were a few) because the XFL is getting a hall of fame!

The “pop up” hall of fame, aimed a promoting the documentary, will only open for one day only on January 14 at the Helen Mills Event Space and Theater in Chelsea, New York City, and will feature artifacts from the league such as “He Hate Me” jerseys, appearances by league stars, and a behind the scenes video from the XFL cheerleaders’ Playboy shoot.
The league’s true legacy of enhanced technology, like the Bubba Cam โ the Steadicam that put a helmet-wearing cameraman on the playing field โ and the SkyCam, which was invented for the XFL and still used today โ will be on display at the exhibition.
ESPN’s documentary on the XFL will air on February 2nd.

Let’s just hope the WWE gets a physical hall of fame before Vince’s World Bodybuilding Federation.
