X-Men Producer Thinks It Would Be Fun to do Crossover With Avengers

During the Deadpool home release press event, director Tim Miller and producer Simon Kinberg had an interesting chat with Crave, where they both supported the X-Men and Avengers movie universes coming together. X-Men, of course, lives at Fox, while Avengers and the Marvel Cinematic Universe are run by Marvel Studios. The pair of companies (and even the rest of Marvel Entertainment) have had a famously contentious relationship.

However, so did Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios, until a deal was worked out, where they would share the character of Spider-Man and his related properties. That meant future Sony Spidey movies would live in the MCU, and Spider-Man could appear in MCU films like Captain America: Civil War, and vice-versa with characters like Iron Man and Captain America. Could that happen with Fox and Marvel?

"I would love to, someday, in part heal the rift between the world of X-Men and the world of Avengers," Miller said of the possibility. His film, Deadpool, is the highest grossing X-Men movie of all time, and the character gets more apparent support from Marvel Entertainment than most X-Men do.

"I think we all would, yeah," Kinberg added. "There's so much crossover in the comics, it would be neat to one day see those characters share a movie. It would be fun to all team-up one day, somehow, together if that could work."

Miller also praised Sony and Marvel for working together on Spider-Man, and noted that both he and Kinberg already have relationships with Kevin Feige, president of Marvel Studios, and Disney.

Miller's visual effects company Blur Studio has produced work for Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios in the past, including entire scenes and sequences for Marvel Studios, like the prologue scene to Thor: The Dark World that showed the fight between the Dark Elves and the Asgardians - that was all CGI created by Blur. Miller and his team are also credited on several other Marvel Studios films, and have worked on credits sequences on Spider-Man films.

Kinberg, meanwhile, has been something of a cross-company super-producer. In addition to his work on the X-Men movies, Kinberg is a producer and writer for Lucasfilm (Sister-studios with Marvel, both under Disney), both on the big screen with the live-action Star Wars movies, and on the small screen as an executive producer and writer on Star Wars Rebels.

In other words, if there are any two people that could even possibly convince Marvel Studios and Kevin Feige to bridge the gap between X-Men and Avengers, it's Miller and Kinberg. This is nevertheless by far the most hope fans of both properties have ever been given by anyone in a position of power at either studio, though it's still anything but an easy road to actually happening.
