In a roundup of current pilot season buzz, THR has some bad news for fans of Marvel's ABC television offerings. Agent Carter is "highly unlikely" to return, and Marvel's Most Wanted, the spin-off of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. is no longer considered a lock, they report.

While THR doesn't cite any specific sources, even only using the terminology "some say" on the latter report, their insight tends more toward the well-sourced and correct than it does to their occasional mistakes. Agent Carter, while still critically acclaimed, suffered from a consistent downturn in ratings in season two earlier this year, after not exactly setting the ratings on fire in its first season. With Hayley Atwell still signed with ABC, and her drama Conviction likely to go to series with the network, there's not much incentive for them to keep the other show going.

Marvel's Most Wanted is a bigger surprise, though, as it has had good industry buzz in pilot season, and the characters of Bobbi and Lance, played by Adrianne Palicki and Nick Blood, were written off Agents in spectacular and emotional fashion. While it would be possible to bring them back, it certainly wouldn't be right away. "Not considered the lock it once was" is far from a no-go, of course.

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has already been renewed for a fourth season. Marvel TV, ABC Studios, and Netflix also team on the currently in-production Iron Fist and in post-production Luke Cage, following the success of Daredevil and Jessica Jones before them. The Defenders and Punisher are also on the way from that collaboration. ABC's family-centric channel Freeform ordered a Cloak and Dagger TV show straight to series last month.
