Joel Kinnaman Suicide Squad

In a recent interview, actor Joel Kinnaman revealed how the cast of Suicide Squad went from a group of strangers to a deadly team of anti-heroes ripped straight from the pages of DC Comics.

"You often hear directors talk about a rehearsal period, and it often ends up being an advanced table read," Joel Kinnaman, who'll be playing Rick Flag, told the site. "But we actually had a month of rehearsals. We were all in one room, rehearsing the script, improvising, and that puts everybody in an insecure and vulnerable position. You feel like everybody is feeling the same things, and you overcome it together. That was really effective on this film. We all had to show our asses to each other."

Director David Ayer corroborated the claim "The rehearsal was very intense. It wasn't a normal rehearsal, we'd talk about their lives, their history, and really got them to open up as people to each other. I also had them fight. I had them fight each other. You learn a lot about who a person really is when you punch them in the face. It gets rid of a lot of the actor stuff," he told Yahoo Movies UK.

With lots of anticipation nipping at the heels of Sucide Squad, fans are surely relieved to hear that the cast gets along well. The cast's bonding time was enforced by David Ayer as Joel Kinnaman spoke about the director's desire to break any ice between the cast.

Joel Kinnaman said that David Ayer, "asked questions in front of everyone that were hard to dodge. 'What are you most afraid of? What is the most embarrassed you've ever been? What's the meanest thing you've ever done to someone?' Those kinds of questions. So it becomes very honest, it strips the facade and you get to know each other for real."

And, to keep things fair, David Ayer also divulged personal information about himself. Thinking back to David's words, Kinnaman laughed and said the director was, "very f***ed up."

While David Ayer's team bonding helped the cast get comfortable with each another, one actor was noticeably missing. Jared Leto, who's playing The Joker, wasn't involved in order to keep the film's villain from bonding with his on-screen enemies.

Slated to release August 5th, fans are more excited than ever to see the team's chemistry come to life on the big screen as the cast promises viewers the movie is like none other before it.
