Spider-Man: Homecoming is preparing to relaunch Marvel's Web-Slinging hero from the isolation of his own Sony franchise into the bigger sea of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. As the film (directed by relative newcomer Jon Watts (Cop Car) continues production, we're learning more and more about the cast involved.

Thanks to a supposed casting call sheet leaked from the production, we now have pretty good confirmation on some rumored character castings, as well as some new reveals to look over.

Here are the major highlights from the casting sheet - which you can view over on Reddit:

  1. As rumored, actor Fargo actor Bokeem Woodbine is playing Spider-Man villain The Shocker.
  2. Jacob Batalon is playing Ned Leeds, a character who, in the comics, becomes the villain Hobgoblin.
  3. Angourie Rice is playing Betty Brandt, the Daily Bugle worker who Elizabeth Banks played in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy.
  4. Laura Harrier is playing Liz Allan, Flash Thompson's high school girlfriend who eventually married Harry Osborn in the comics.
  5. Zendaya is rumored to play Mary Jane, but is listed on the "call sheet" as "Michelle." Not sure what's happening with that.
  6. Older cast members are playing high school faculty (like Orange is the New Black star Selenis Leyva playing Ms. Warren - a last name tied to yet another famous Spider-Man villain).

All in all, this cast of characters is full of Easter eggs that could map out a bigger future for Spidey in the MCU. We already have Michael Keaton's Vulture and Michael Chernus as The Tinkerer, add The Shocker and that's already an impressive rogues gallery to work from. More interesting are the names of Liz Allan, Ned Leeds, and other characters from Spidey's dramatic personal history in the comics all being sewn into this MCU reboot this early.

Finally, one wonders if "Ms. Warren" is tied to the character of Miles Warren, who in the comics was one of Peter Parker's teachers, who became the maniacal Jackal and created a series of clones to replace Spider-Man and his loved ones.
