Rogue One: A Star Wars Story Runtime Revealed

The runtime for the very first Star Wars spinoff movie, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, has been revealed.

According to Event Cinemas, the official runtime for the movie is 133 minutes or 2 hours an 13 minutes long, which is just two minutes shorter than Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Other than Darth Vadar and the Death Star, Rogue One will have many new elements that most general audiences will not be familiar with. A little over 2 hours seems a bit on the short side to properly introduce brand new characters, planets, and other parts of the galaxy that we have never seen before, during a time that we don't know much about.

Rogue One is set to take place during a time of epic battles before the events of Star Wars: A New Hope, when the Rebel Alliance is just starting to gain it's footing against Empire rule, Jedi were almost non-existant, and the Force was questioned.

Being the very first spin-off that doesn't take place within the main Star Wars continuity, Rogue One has a lot riding on it's shoulders. Based on what we've seen so far, Rogue One looks to be a huge success, hopefully paving the way for many more spin-off movies to come. Either way, there is no such thing as "too much" Star Wars.

From Lucasfilm comes the first of the Star Wars standalone films, Rogue One: A Star Wars Story, an all-new epic adventure. In a time of conflict, a group of unlikely heroes band together on a mission to steal the plans to the Death Star, the Empire's ultimate weapon of destruction. This key event in the Star Wars timeline brings together ordinary people who choose to do extraordinary things, and in doing so, become part of something greater than themselves.

Rogue One: A Star Wars Story will be in theaters on December 16, 2016, followed by Star Wars: Episode VIII on December 15, 2017, the Han Solo Star Wars Story film on May 25, 2018, Star Wars: Episode IX in 2019, and the third Star Wars Story film in 2020.
