When Tom Holland was cast to play Spider-Man/Peter Parker in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, as well as Sony's next rebooted Spidey film series, he didn't have a lot of time to bask in the moment. Within days of the announcement, Holland was rushed to the set of Captain America: Civil War—which was in the midst of filming airport fight scene—to shoot his first Spider-Man scenes. However, since the costume department didn't know which actor would land the part, Holland could only wear a Spider-Man costume that was fitted for bulkier and much-taller stunt-double.
"I put it on, it felt pretty good," Holland explained in December during a Facebook Live event. "It felt good. But when I opened up the mirrors, it was like saggy, and it looked like a really sad version of Spider-Man. So, it wasn't the most heroic Spider-Man you've seen. It was definitely cool. It definitely looked cool. And now that it fits, it looks great. But on the day, I was very disappointed."
For Spider-Man: Homecoming, there was plenty of time to make sure the Spidey costume fit Holland perfectly and made him as comfortable as possible, right? Not so much.
In a recent interview, ShortList magazine asked the young actor: "On a scale of one to 10 - with 10 being a cashmere onesie - how comfy is the Spider-Man outfit?"
"A solid three," Holland replied. "It's not comfy but it's the Spider-Man outfit - it's the collest thing ever. You look like a badass and feel like a gangster. The Best thing is wearing it meeting kids - they genuinely think you have superpowers."
A young Peter Parker/Spider-Man (Tom Holland), who made his sensational debut in Captain America: Civil War, begins to navigate his newfound identity as the web-slinging super hero in Spider-Man: Homecoming. Thrilled by his experience with the Avengers, Peter returns home, where he lives with his Aunt May (Marisa Tomei), under the watchful eye of his new mentor Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.). Peter tries to fall back into his normal daily routine – distracted by thoughts of proving himself to be more than just your friendly neighborhood Spider-Man – but when the Vulture (Michael Keaton) emerges as a new villain, everything that Peter holds most important will be threatened.
The cast features Tom Holland, Michael Keaton, Zendaya, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, with Marisa Tomei, and Robert Downey Jr.. It also includes Jon Favreau, Martin Starr, Kenneth Choi, Michael Mando, Selenis Leyva, Isabella Amara, Jorge Lendeborg, Jr., JJ Totah, Hannibal Buress, and Jacob Batalon.
The film is being directed by Jon Watts (Cop Car), based on a screenplay by Jonathan Goldstein & John Francis Daley (Vacation reboot) and Jon Watts & Christopher Ford and Chris McKenna & Erik Sommers.
The film is produced by Marvel boss Kevin Feige and former Sony boss Amy Pascal. Louis D'Esposito, Victoria Alonso, Patricia Whitcher, Jeremy Latcham, and Stan Lee are serving as Executive Producers.
